Development and humanitarian assistance
For the 2022 to 2023 fiscal year (from April 1 to March 31), Canada's international assistance to Cameroon amounted to $50.9 million.
Canada’s international assistance to Cameroon is in line with the action areas of Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy and the aims of the African Union’s Agenda 2063. In Cameroon, Canada supports health initiatives, particularly those related to maternal and child health. Canada also aims to promote peaceful dialogue for women and girls living in fragile countries affected by crisis and conflict and supports community-based efforts to prevent and manage conflict.
Canada provides humanitarian assistance to Cameroon through experienced humanitarian partners, such as the UN, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and NGOs, to support a gender-responsive multi-sectoral response addressing the specific needs of crisis-affected populations. This includes providing food assistance, critical health care, safe water and sanitation, as well as protection services.
Canada also funds local projects through the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives, managed by the High Commission of Canada in Cameroon, in Yaoundé.
Furthermore, Cameroon is eligible for the Canadian International Development Scholarships 2030 Program.
