Canadians wanting to marry in Hong Kong must present a completed statutory declaration. Although the Canadian Consulate in Hong Kong and Macao is not in a position to issue a Certificate of Non Impediment to Marriage, the office can provide a facilitation letter for a fee which may satisfy the Hong Kong or Macao SARs authorities.

Certified copies

Consular Officers can certify true copies of original Canadian documents such as birth, marriage and death certificates. The person requesting the service must go to the Consulate with their original documents and proof of identity such as a passport or a citizenship card.

Certificate of Non-impediment to Marriage

The laws of some countries require that, before a foreigner can marry within their jurisdiction, they must present their 鈥淐ertificate of Non-impediment to Marriage鈥� issued by the authorities of their country. There is no specific legislation in Canada authorizing the issuance of a certificate. Although the Consulate does not issue the certificate, we can prepare a letter that may satisfy the Hong Kong or Macao SARs authorities. A fee will be charged for this service.

Hong Kong Certificate of No Criminal Conviction

If you are a Canadian Citizen and need to obtain a 鈥淐ertificate of No Criminal Conviction (Overseas applicants)鈥�, please refer to the website. If required, the Consulate can issue a facilitation letter to assist you. A fee will be charged for this service.

The information below is specifically for Canadian passport applicants residing in Hong Kong or Macao. Note: Children under the age of 16 can receive a child鈥檚 passport, which will be valid for a maximum of 5 years and cannot be renewed.

• Make sure to include your payment receipt along with your complete application when you submit it. Applications without proof of payment will be rejected.

3. Submit your complete application in person or by mail or drop off.

When mailing in or dropping off an application, please ensure that your application includes the following in a sealed envelope:

• Printed receipt showing applicable fees have been paid online

Make sure your phone number, email address and mailing address are accurate. We will contact you if there are any questions. If we are unable to reach you, your application will not be processed. It is unnecessary to indicate an Anticipated Date of Travel unless you have already finalized your travelling plan.

It is our standard procedure to courier your new passport and all submitted supporting documents to your residential address by Hong Kong Post.

Due to the high volume of applications, we will not answer enquiries on application status or reception of documents. Track with the courier company of your choice the status of your shipment if needed.

Submit in person: to present your documents in person. Bring your online payment receipt to your appointment. Cash is not accepted. Timeslots are opened periodically and can only be made in the appointment system. Please note, we do not book appointments by email.

Note: Clients presenting themselves at the Consulate without an appointment to apply for a passport will not see a consular representative and will be asked to submit their application via the drop box.

Processing time

The normal processing time for passports is 20 working days, excluding holidays and postal delivery time regardless of whether the application is submitted via mail-in, drop-box or in person. This starts from the day after the assessment of a fully completed application with supporting documentation*. Please allow for 5 to 6 weeks in total, including mailing time.

It is recommended that you do not finalize your travel plans until you receive your new passport.

* Incomplete applications will be returned to the sender.

Emergency passport applications

Emergency cases, such as travellers with lost/stolen passports, will continue to be served without appointment and beyond these hours. For emergency services within office hours, please email hkongcanadaconsul@international.gc.ca. After office hours, please contact the in Ottawa.

It is the responsibility of the individual to ensure their passports are valid for travel prior to making travel arrangements. If your passport has expired or does not have sufficient validity to accommodate your need to travel, we are unable to guarantee we can process your application prior to your departure date. Please email hkongcanadaconsul@international.gc.ca to give us details if you are in such a situation before submitting your application.

For Macao residents: Please enclose a return self-addressed envelope with attention to the applicant (large enough to enclose all of your original documents and the new passport).
