Adoption and surrogacy

Refer to .

Surrogacy is legally permitted in Kazakhstan. If you are considering this option, you should seek independent legal advice to ensure you are eligible and well informed regarding both Canadian and Kazakh laws and requirements.

Birth abroad

Refer to .

If your child is born outside of Canada, you do not need to register the birth in Canada.

When a Canadian has a baby born in Kazakhstan, the baby will be issued a local Birth certificate in Kazakh and Russian. According to traditions, the father's name is printed on the baby's birth certificate with ending "-ovich/-evich, -ovna/-evna". If you do not want to have that patronymic or would like to have it as a regular middle name without that ending, make sure to inform the local authorities in advance. It is really difficult to make any amendments to the birth certificate later on. According to the New Names Policy your baby's full name (including the patronymic if any) will be printed on his/her Canadian Citizenship Certificate and Canadian passport exactly as it is written down on their birth certificate.
