Bilateral relations
Canada and Liechtenstein established diplomatic relations in 1995 and enjoy positive relations based on common values that are the basis for active co-operation in multilateral forums.
The Government of Canada manages its bilateral relationship from the Embassy of Canada to Switzerland, in Bern.
The Embassy of Switzerland to Canada, in Ottawa, represents Liechtenstein in Canada.
Trade relations
Since 2009, Canada’s trade relationship with Liechtenstein has grown thanks to a new free trade agreement with the European Free Trade Association, of which Liechtenstein is a member. The agreement gives Canadian businesses opportunities to establish and grow commercial ties all over Europe.
Canada and Liechtenstein have increased co-operation in the area of financial information sharing through a Tax Information Exchange Agreement (TIEA), which came into effect in January 2014.
