Biography

Adam Barratt (BA, Carleton University, 1992) is a career Foreign Service officer with ¶¶ÒùÊÓƵ, serving since February 2024 as Consul General of Canada, a.i. in Seattle. As Canada’s Consul General for the Pacific Northwest, Mr. Barratt oversees a team of 20 people who work within the states of Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Alaska to strengthen trade and economic ties, enhance political, academic and cultural links, and assist Canadians visiting or living in the four-state territory.
Mr. Barratt has over 20 years of international experience divided between the Office of the Governor General and ¶¶ÒùÊÓƵ where he has served since 2008. Most recently, he represented Canada as Minister-Counsellor at the Embassy in Washington, D.C. (2016 to 2022), in charge of congressional and intergovernmental relations, including the successful ratification of the USMCA through Congress in 2020. He also served as Political Counsellor at the Embassy in Port-au-Prince, Haiti (2008 to 2011) where he helped manage Canada’s response to the devastating 2010 earthquake.
At Headquarters in Ottawa, Mr. Barratt served most recently as the Director General of the Summits Management Office (2022 to 2024), and previously as the Departmental Spokesperson for the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director of Media Relations (2014 to 2016). He continues to serve on the Department’s Standing Rapid Deployment Team given his experience responding to natural disasters and crisis situations.
Mr. Barratt received a Deputy Minister’s Commendation and the Operational Service Medal for his work in Haiti in 2010 and the Queen Elizabeth Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002 for service to the Canadian Crown. Born in Montreal and raised in Vancouver and Edmonton, Mr. Barratt is fluently bilingual in French and forever working on his Spanish. He is married to David Moore, a senior communications advisor at the World Bank Group. When not on posting, they reside outside of Ottawa near the village of Wakefield, Québec.
