Lima Group Declaration on new cabinet appointments

The governments of Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Paraguay and Peru, all members of the Lima Group, support the decision of the Interim President of Venezuela, Juan Guaidó, to appoint Julio Borges as Presidential Commissioner for Foreign Affairs. They believe that the appointment will result in an increase in international support for the end of the usurpation of the presidency and the beginning of a peaceful transition to democracy in Venezuela.
At the same time, they recognize the work that Julio Borges has been doing to restore democracy in Venezuela.
They also support the decisions of the Interim President and the National Assembly to find a way out of the serious economic, political and social crisis that Venezuela is experiencing. Finally, they renew their commitment to support Venezuelans in the recovery of democracy and fundamental freedoms and guarantees in that country.
