Lima Group statement
October 18, 2019
The governments of Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Saint Lucia and Venezuela, members of the Lima Group, deeply deplore that the illegitimate and dictatorial regime of Nicolás Maduro, which is responsible for serious human rights violations, has been elected to the United Nations Human Rights Council for the period of 2020 to 2022.
We renew our firm decision to carry out our best efforts to advance the Human Rights Council’s investigation of the systematic violations of human rights in Venezuela so that those responsible for these criminal acts are held to account.
Finally, we reiterate our unwavering commitment to continue promoting, together with the international community, the restoration of democracy and the rule of law in Venezuela.
