Consulting with Canadians
In advance of possible future negotiations relating to Electronic Commerce (e-commerce) at the World Trade Organization (WTO), the Government of Canada is seeking input from Canadians on the types of commitments they would like to see pursued to further facilitate trade in e-commerce, and to provide a more predictable, transparent and rules-based framework.
A summary of stakeholder input will be published following the consultation, at which point stakeholders will have a further opportunity to provide comments.

The submission period for the Canada Gazette notice will last 90 days, and end on April 25, 2019. The Government of Canada is committed to hearing from Canadians on this topic and will ensure that Canadians continue to have the opportunity to provide their views as we engage at the WTO, including through our ongoing consultation efforts.
Canadians have until 11:59 p.m. (Pacific Time) on April 25, 2019, to submit their responses, comments and suggestions.
Purpose of consultation
The purpose of this consultation is to:
- Inform Canada’s position, interests and any sensitivities for possible future negotiations at the WTO on e-commerce.
- Hear stakeholders’ views on mentioned themes, or any other issues related to e-commerce they feel should be discussed or addressed through this WTO initiative.
Who should participate?
This consultation is open to all Canadians and everyone is invited to share their ideas. The Government of Canada invites any Canadian stakeholder with an interest in the trade-related aspects of e-commerce to provide input as part of this consultation.

- academics and experts
- Indigenous groups
- industry associations and labour unions
- other interested parties
It is important to have the breadth and diversity of Canadian views represented through this consultation process.

The Government of Canada is seeking the views of industry stakeholders, non-governmental organizations, and all interested Canadian citizens.
