Canada and Indonesia have strong commercial relations. Indonesia is Canada’s 24th largest merchandise trading partner: two-way merchandise trade totalled $4.2 billion in 2021. Two-way trade has grown steadily over the last decade, by 3.2% annually on average. Indonesia is Canada's largest Southeast Asian export market and its second-largest destination for direct investment abroad.

In 2021, Canada exported $2.2 billion in merchandise to Indonesia and imported $2.0 billion in merchandise.

In Canada, 9,002 jobs were directly or indirectly supported by merchandise exports to Indonesia in 2020, 2,653 of which were occupied by women.

In 2020, the top 5 industries employing Canadian women in jobs supported directly and indirectly by merchandise exports to Indonesia were:

  • Agriculture and Agri-food: 582 jobs
  • Wholesale trade: 413 jobs
  • Transportation and warehousing: 248 jobs
