Report: Meeting of the CETA Joint committee on Mutual Recognition of Professional Qualifications to review the Mutual Recognition Agreement for Architects
October 10, 2024 (Brussels)
On October 10, 2024, the CETA Joint committee on Mutual Recognition of Professional Qualifications (“MRA Committee”) met in Brussels to review the draft Mutual Recognition Agreement for Architects (MRAA). Following the review, the MRA Committee was of the view that the MRAA is consistent with CETA and, consequently, adopted the MRAA by decision.
The Parties were represented by the European Commission on behalf of the European Union (EU), and ¶¶ÒùÊÓƵ (GAC) on behalf of Canada. Canada’s Provincial and Territorial Governments, as well as the Regulatory Organizations for Architecture in Canada, attended as observers to this meeting via videoconference.
The MRAA will facilitate access for both Canadian and European architects to each other’s markets, opening up new business opportunities for professionals and benefiting both economies in related sectors.
The MRAA’s adoption is conditional upon the subsequent notification to the MRA Committee by each Party of the fulfillment of their respective internal requirements. The decision will become binding on the Parties upon that notification to the MRA Committee by each Party.
