Canada-Chile work plan for implementing activities on trade and gender
This evergreen work plan reflects a 24-month period (January 2024 - December 2025) and will be regularly updated. The listed activities below will support the following principles:
- gender balance
- accountability
- transparency
- flexibility and pragmatism
- openness to the participation of and considering the expertise of civil society
- a commitment to “best efforts”, being pro-active and results-oriented
Areas of cooperation:
1. Experience sharing
Sharing experiences in designing, implementing, monitoring and strengthening policies and programs to encourage women’s participation in national and international economies (Article N bis-03, 1).
Objectives:
- To obtain benefits from sharing respective experiences
- To raise awareness of the trade and gender nexus throughout the FTA.
Activities:
- Meeting between gender focal points, Committee members and/or representatives from both parties who will participate in the development of the Implementation Plan for the Gender and Trade Chapter of the CCFTA. February-April 2024
- Engage with other Committees to coordinate joint initiatives, with the aim of mainstreaming gender and trade issues in the implementation of the CCFTA. June 2024 (TBC)
- Exchange of experiences and technical cooperation regarding gender-disaggregated data gathering on trade and women in Canada and Chile, where technical aspects, cases, best practices, among others, regarding data collection are exchanged. August 2024 (TBC)
- Publication of activities carried out on the respective websites. December 2025 (TBC)
Deliverable/expected results:
- Publication of a workplan
- Meeting summary documents
- Development of a virtual or in-person event, with attendance from technical teams of each country
2. National Cross-Sector Collaboration
Agreeing on issues and topics of mutual interests, through interactions among respective government institutions, businesses, labor unions, education and research organization, an other non-governmental organizations, and their representatives, as appropiate, to carry out activities (Article N bis-03, 3).
Objectives:
- To agree on issues and topics of mutual interest through national cross-sector interaction and collaboration to carry out activities.
Activities:
- Local interaction activities conducted by each party with local stakeholders. Chile: March 2023/Canada (TBD)
Deliverable/expected results:
- Written exchange of proposals and feedback after national interactions.
3. Carrying out of cooperation activities
Carrying out of cooperation activities by the parties, designed to improve the capacity and conditions for women, including workers, businesswomen and entrepreneurs, to access and fully benefit from the opportunities created by this Agreement. These activities shall be carried out with inclusive participation of women. (Article N bis 03, 2)
Objectives:
- To ensure women fully benefit from the opportunities created by the CCFTA through cooperation activities.
Activities:
- Event on Women in Mining, with participation from women's associations, sector companies, academy, and other relevant stakeholders from both countries, to showcase public and private policies, cases, and best practices that have promoted women's inclusion within the field. November 2024 or March 2025 (TBC)
- Event on Women in Cleantech, with the participation of women's associations, sector companies, academy, and other relevant stakeholders from both countries to showcase public and private policies, cases, and best practices that have promoted women's inclusion within the field. November 2025 (TBC)
Deliverable/expected results:
- Event attendance record, event report, and recording afterward if it is virtual.
