Canada welcomes the positive steps taken by the United Kingdom to pass legislation obliging the Northern Ireland Department of Health to commission and fund abortion services.
Canada recommends that the United Kingdom:
- Ensure that the current level of human rights protection provided by the Human Rights Act of 1998, including the rights of asylum seekers, are maintained under any legislative reform.
- Continue to fight against the discrimination faced by transgender people, by expanding the planned ban on conversion therapy to include transgender people.
- Maintain its robust tradition of citizens' right to peacefully protest as new legislation on public order is introduced.
Canada commends the United Kingdom for its overall strong record on human rights at home and abroad.
