Canada’s response to the conflict in Lebanon
The situation throughout Lebanon, including in Beirut, remains volatile and unpredictable due to violent clashes between Israel and Hezbollah, including daily rocket and missile fire and air strikes, often resulting in casualties.
The Government of Canada remains fully engaged and is focused on the safety and security of Canadians in the region.

Temporary measures to support people affected by the crisis in Lebanon
Temporary immigration measures are in place for people in Canada who are affected by the crisis.
If eligible, you can apply for an open work permit or a study permit, or to extend your visitor status in Canada for free.
Find out if you’re affected by the first-generation limit on Canadian citizenship and what it means for you.
Information for Canadians and permanent residents who want to leave Lebanon
We continue to urge Canadians and permanent residents to avail themselves of commercial options to leave Lebanon, which are still available to a range of destinations on a daily basis. Should they choose to stay in Lebanon, Canadians and permanent residents should not rely on the Government of Canada for evacuation.
Since September 29, 2024, Canada has coordinated commercial flight options out of Lebanon, making more than 3,200 seats available. Over 1,200 Canadians, permanent residents and families availed themselves of these departure options.
There has since been a decrease in uptake by Canadians and permanent residents for seats on flights coordinated by the Government of Canada. As a result, these coordination efforts have ended. ¶¶ÒùÊÓƵ continues to provide information about departure opportunities on commercial flights out of Lebanon, based on demand.
If you are in Lebanon and require assistance, contact the Government of Canada at me-mo.sos@international.gc.ca.
Whether for commercial departures or in the event of assisted departures or an evacuation from Lebanon, travellers are responsible for their own travel expenses.
Emergency contact information for Canadians and permanent residents
Canadians and permanent residents in Lebanon who need emergency consular assistance should contact the Government of Canada at the dedicated email address for Canadians affected by the ongoing conflict: me-mo.sos@international.gc.ca.
We also urge Canadians in Lebanon to sign up with the service to receive important information about the conflict.
Travel documents required for travel to Canada
Canadians and permanent residents planning to travel onward to Canada must ensure they have the valid travel documents to do so, including those of their spouse and dependent children.
Canadians and permanent residents who don’t have valid travel documents to come to Canada must apply for them as soon as possible.
How Canada is helping
Canada is working closely with the international community and regional partners to support the de-escalation of the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
To date in 2024, Canada has allocated more than $49 million in humanitarian assistance funding to assist crisis-affected people in Lebanon. This funding will help experienced Canadian and international organizations provide food, water, emergency health care, protection services and other life-saving assistance.
Recognizing the generosity of Canadians and their desire to assist those affected by the conflict in Lebanon, Canada announced that it will match up to $6 million in donations made to the Canadian Red Cross’ and the Humanitarian Coalition’s . Every donation made by individuals to these organizations from September 24 to November 3, 2024, will be matched to a maximum of $3 million for each appeal.
