What does Canada’s Peace and Stabilization Operations Program do?
- Supports initiatives, policy and organizations that promote peace, security, and stability
- Deploys Canadian police officers and civilian experts to support peacekeeping and peacebuilding
- Promotes gender equality, diversity and inclusion, respect for the rule of law, and the protection of human rights
- Enhances UN Peace Operations, including by increasing the meaningful participation of women through the Elsie Initiative
How does this program make a difference?
- Provides rapid and coordinated action to respond to conflict and fragility
- Empowers women and girls to resolve conflict, build peace and live without fear for their safety
- Protects children from being recruited and used as child soldiers
- Decreases the number of landmine victims
- Fosters mediation in neighbourhoods and communities and addresses conflict before it escalates
