Origin quotas for CETA and the Canada-UK TCA
The Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) between Canada and the European Union (EU) was provisionally applied on September 21, 2017. Under CETA, Canada and the EU agreed to establish a number of origin quotas to allow for specific quantities of some products to receive preferential tariff treatment if the products meet certain conditions.
The Canada-UK Trade Continuity Agreement (Canada-UK TCA) came into force on April 1, 2021. The origin quotas contained in CETA are incorporated by reference into this agreement, although some quantities differ depending on the product.
In accordance with these agreements, origin quotas are treated on a first-come, first-served basis by the importing country.
