If your child is born outside of Canada, you do not need to register the birth in Canada.
The birth of every child in Bulgaria, legitimate or natural, must be registered with the local authorities. Registration must occur within maximum 7 days following the birth.

Marriages are never celebrated at the Honorary Consulate. The Honorary Consulate of Canada to Bulgaria does not assist with marriage arrangements.
Religious marriages in Romania cannot be performed until after the civil ceremony.
Contact the local Municipality where the marriage will be performed for further instructions.
Bulgarian law requires Canadian citizens to present a 鈥淐ertificate of Non-Impediment to Marriage鈥� that certifies their capacity to marry. The Government of Canada does not issue such certificates. However, to assist Canadians to meet the local requirements, the Honorary Consulate issues an affidavit (PDF) containing the relevant information.
Make an appointment with the Honorary Consulate by email at sofia@international.gc.ca to bring:
- the completed affidavit
- original or certified true copy of own valid Canadian passport
- original or certified copy of the fianc茅(e)鈥檚 valid passport or local identity card
If you and your fianc茅(e) are both Canadian citizens, you will each need to swear an affidavit. Non-refundable fees will apply for each of you. See fees under Notarial services.
Our service standard is 5 business days from the time we receive a complete affidavit.
Marriages that are legally performed in a foreign country are usually valid in Canada, and you do not need to register them in Canada. If you have questions about the validity of your foreign marriage, contact the of your province or territory.
Notarial services
Consular officials do not provide any legal advice or represent a person in court. The office provides the following notarial services, by appointment only by email at sofia@international.gc.ca, to Canadian citizens and, in limited cases, to non-Canadian citizens if the documents are intended for use in Canada.

Note: Documents must be in English or French, or accompanied by an official translation in English or French.
Authentication/Attestation (certify the document signature, the position of an official and the seal are genuine):
- Documents issued in Canada must be authenticated by 抖淫视频 in Ottawa before the office will certify the documents (fees apply).
- Witness a signature on a Statement in lieu of certificate of non-impediment to marriage abroad form (fees apply).
- Clients requiring information about authenticating documents while outside of Canada, refer to Authentication of documents.
Certified copy (certify the document is a true copy of the original):
- Documents presented by a Canadian citizen or a non-Canadian citizen for use in Canada; exceptions apply (fees apply).
- Government-issued identification requiring a certified true copy (fees apply).
Witness a signature (consular officer witnesses a signature):
- Documents presented by a Canadian citizen or a non-Canadian citizen for use in Canada; exceptions apply (fees apply).
