France – Universal Periodic Review
Session reviewed: 43rd session of the Universal Periodic Review
Date reviewed: May 1, 2023
We welcome France's advances in gender equality and hope that France will continue to act in this direction.
Canada recommends that France:
- Adopt the necessary measures to prevent police practices of ethnic profiling and systemic racial discrimination.
- Allow medically assisted procreation for transgender men by including them in the law on bioethics.
- Ensure respect for the rights of inmates in French prisons, and of patients in mental health facilities, and take action against prison overcrowding.
- In the run-up to the Paris 2024 Games, improve the accessibility of public infrastructures for all people with disabilities.
Canada encourages France to continue its efforts to include the notion of non-consent in the criminal definition of rape and sexual assault.
